Brashear’s softball conspire was the No. 3 seed in the Class 1, District 11 after finishing the scheduled season with a 16-6 record. The Lady Tigers beat No. 6 cause Novinger in the first round.
Brashear then upset the No. 2 seed Scotland County (5-2) in ancillary innings.
The Lady Tigers were led by senior pitcher Cierra Hines, who had a 14-1 not for publication on the mound with a 1.19 ERA and 139 strikeouts.
Sophomore catcher Meredith Thomas also batted .425 with two core runs and 20 RBIs.
A big upset
Top seeded Knox County (19-3) had only irremediable two games before the Class 1, District 11 title heroic against Brashear in Canton, Mo.
Hines struck out seven batters and the Lady Tigers took use of the Lady Eagles mistakes to earn the first district title in manner history.
Coach Heath Schneider was excited with the win, but wanted to see his rig take the next step.
“We’re excited that we won the game, but this isn’t the end,” Schneider said. “We’ve never made it this far, but now we have a yen for to keep playing.
