Well, as we bring together out another year, it’s always fun to look back at the big news of the past year and what folks around Ipswich will memorialize from a wild 2011.

Winter

Boys track and field Runner of the Year Kieran Kinnare breaks the 600-meter memento by running 1:25.05 at the Coaches’ Invitational on Jan. 30 in Boston. He also holds the 1,000-meter disc.  At the D-2 state meet, he breaks former teammate Greg Krathwohl’s mile / with a 4:24.73 run. Then, at All-States, he breaks the 23-year-old two-mile record with a run of 9:29.70, qualifying for the New England championships. There, Kinnare finishes fifth in New England in the two-mile to cap his indoor business.

Ipswich-Georgetown girls track and field is an undefeated title-holder, finishing the regular season at 11-0 for the first time in I.H.S. history. Five members of the tandem join up finished undefeated in their individual events, as well. The girls finish as runners-up to Hamilton-Wenham in the CAL Available meet, however. Samantha Brown earns Runner of the Year honors for flourishing 10-0 in the 55-meter. Head coach Gardy O’Flynn also takes territory the Coach of the Year award. Liz Glavin is runner-up for the shotput at the Unit 2 state championships. Sarah Keiran breaks the mile data three times, the last at the All-State meet (5:15.11) and closes her season at the Nike Indoor Nationals, where she finishes 25th in the Emerging Elite upset.
