TSU (Kyodo) -- The Mie prefectural control is in talks with a regional agricultural administration office and neighboring Aichi Prefecture over the construction of a substantial solar-power facility on reclaimed land in Kisosaki, which straddles the two prefectures, Mie officials said Friday.
If built, the power establishment facility would be one of the largest in the country with the capacity to produce 40,000 kilowatts of tension.
The two prefectures purchased the roughly 440-hectare site from the maintain in March 2001 under contracts that have limited its use to public space, such as a recreational camping locale.
Legal changes would be needed to build a large-scale solar power powder-room there.
Electricity generated at the facility would be sold in its entirety to Chubu Electrifying Power Co., a regional utility, in accordance with a renewable energy law that goes into crack this summer.
Several companies have expressed interest in the project, the officials said, adding that the Mie regulation plans to solicit possible operators once it finishes adjustments with the municipalities caring and environmental groups.
