Following on the heels of accomplishment of an outside sports track for the Royall School District in Elroy is another dynamism aimed at healthy living. The district recently received an whole $2 million federal and community-funded Physical Knowledge Program Grant, or PEP Grant, to enhance physical fitness by creating a wholesomeness center in the school.

"It is a three-year grant," said Mark Gruen, conductor of schools and a member of the grant advisory committee. "The amount received the first year is $785,000. The weight is contingent on year one. The government will provide $1.6 million and the community partners and precinct will donate volunteer time in the amount of $463,000."

He said this will be allotted in increments of 10 percent for the first year, 25 percent for the younger year and 25 percent for the third year.

Some of the 24 community partners count the city of Elroy, Juneau County UW-Extension, Fort McCoy, Volk Contestants, Viterbo University Nutrition and Dietetics, Mile Bluff Medical Center and St. Joseph Trim Services.
