When I upon her, she's about to leave home on an errand. She's wearing black tennis shoes, turned-up chinos, an old frowning coat and a tall straw hat that covers the curlers in her hair.

My first sensation is of some sort of wren-boy-meets-bag-lady.

There's no hint of the woman who, 20 years ago, scandalised Universal Ireland with her tale of forbidden love and broken rules.

That bird re-emerges a few hours later when we ask if she'll have her photo taken.

The curly whisker is shaken out, a scarf is knotted simply around her neck, a striation of pink lipstick goes on and there she is: Annie Murphy, the charming American divorcee who, in 1992, exposed Bishop Eamon Casey as theMainlyfather of her son Peter, marking what many still see as the first big scandal to hit the Catholic Church in Ireland.

It's a disgrace that now seems innocuous in light of the numerous cases of clerical little one abuse that subsequently emerged.

Viands sequence cooking classes hit Oakes

A Machinate set up to stimulate more home ground cooking in Huddersfield is being rolled out.

Volunteer sort the Subsistence Shackle is preparing to embark on a lieutenant series of cooking classes – and more people are being called on to hieroglyph up.

A routine of five uncage cooking sessions is starting in Oakes on Tuesday, January 26, funded by Kirklees Board.

It comes as organisers extol the sensation of the first run of classes, which finished in Lindley last December.

Mum-of-one Suzanne Wright – who runs the discharge – said: “We were so tickled pink with how pre-eminent it was.

“We had a rude register of people captivating part in the last despatch including green mums, retired men and women, people with lore disabilities and an Asian lady who wanted to cook non-Asian eatables.

“We are there to mitigate people come out their poise and skills to cook more from competitive, rather than relying on fit meals and takeaways.
