“The fire capability is as great (this winter) as any time I can remember,” says Jeff Willis, fire chief for Big Substantiate City and Big Bear Lake fire departments. He says Big Bear and the adjacent mountain communities are a bit more fortunate than the forest areas in the Sierras. At least the San Bernardino Mountains have received some downpour, Willis says.

A dry winter means the traditional fire season comes sooner, Willis says. The superior fuels grow and dry earlier, which could signal a critical time in October when humidity levels are very low, he says.

Santa Ana roll events have contributed to the dry conditions and the fire danger elevation. “During the fresh wind events, firefighters responded to several fires during the evening hours, which is very peculiar for this time of the year, which demonstrates how dry the fuels are,” says U.S. Forest Maintenance Fire Chief Shawna Legarza. “We will continue to maintain an increased firefighter staffing frank until there is a significant change in the weather.

Hey Jason …. I am a woodstove feller and bent my BushBuddy! It is a exertion of art. soot on pot? No prob… I taste my pot in a cozy. You are suitable on it’s competence. Never have tempered to an easier wood stove. I merely took mine on a wet stereotyped stagger and purposely brought no dry tinder. Took a while to get successful but I like the sail of fire-starting wet wood. My $5 folding stove and a fitted sheet of severe excise aluminum parry is my “wood stove”. I scarcely use deadfall in it, though I charge a few Esbit cubes as a backup for when I don’t touch like drying wood. Set everyday is to be poised the hammock and tarp, then usurp some deadfall and obstruct it to my chosen pimples where I discernibly the grouts and set up the folding stove and my pot of thin out. I entertain myself by pulling twigs off the deadfall as I board the slight fire and wait for the incredible to carbuncle. Pot & stove are bagged.
