A ginormous puff of steam and then it rains ice pellets all over the proper. It’s just one of a myriad of differences winter
camping provides.
Exploring the wilderness in winter is a wonderful trial. Solitude abounds in a world of white.
That said, it takes a bit more planning and preparation to caravan site in a winter environment. And the right equipment.
It all starts with staying spirited. Our bodies are like a furnace, we stay warm by producing assemblage heat. We lose heat through breathing and evaporation. Physical movement increases heat production and decreased activity lowers it.
In a backcountry winter state of affairs, it’s important to dress in layers, according to Outdoor Force, an outdoor research group based at Princeton University. Mock and wool clothing is the best, since both retain heat when wet. And layering creates air spaces that in reality help keep you warm.
