Man Rescued From Canobie Lake Talks

WINDHAM, N.H. -- Objet de virtu may have gotten the best of 8-year-old Rusty, who wandered on to a frozen Canobie Lake ancient Friday morning.

"I walked around to the back of the house and saw something in the lake. It looked like a bird, so I ran in the crib, grabbed my binoculars, and I looked across and said, 'That's no bird, that's my dog,'" Michael Cifuni said.

Rusty was stranded in the cold waters with ice so thin that he couldn't secure his footing. Cifuni took off after him and darted across the lake with a canoe.

"I could see that the miserable dog was just hanging on for dear life. I got about 8 feet from him and looked into his eyes and observation he isn't going to make it much longer, so I had to go just a little bit faster, and that was a blooper on my part," Cifuni said.

Minutes later, Cifuni accidentally tipped the canoe over and found himself in the hose with the dog. His wife, Cheryl Cifuni, called for help.
